I’m really excited for these!! Miikes movies have consumed a large portion of my brain.

So it’s a real challenge to put this into words.. I mean.. What can I say about this film maniac that would serve him any justice?

Miike is one of Japan’s most prolific, yet hated and also well-received, but also one of the most underground cult directors. He’s also one of the trashiest some would say Masters of horror, but also surrealist who moonlights with Yakuza/Epic Samurai/Comedies in a challenging, thought-provoking way. From the terrifying and hilarious movie “Audition” to the mentally challenging “Gozu” to the downright crazy “Ichi the Killer” and of course my “don’t tell your friends” favorite the arthouse-style “Visitor Q”.

Miike is not an easy dude to categorize. However he is by far one of the most fascinating characters in the Japanese movie scene. His latest movie “13 Assasins” has people comparing him with Kurosawa and Beat Takeshi.

I personally feel he doesn’t deserve to be placed in a box. Miike defies the box. I can’t wait to watch his 2 new movies about to come out here in the states. Just take a look at what he’s doing with his latest films and I dare you to try to compare an American Director to him. Tarantino? Yeah, you wish!!
