Mad Man, Genius, Sociopath, Brilliant musician.. these are how people described Nyíregyházi in his lifetime. Child prodigy born with perfect pitch, and composing music at age 2. Some people describe his playing style as unmusical banging, and unorganized messes of improvised notes.
Me personally this is the most exciting classical music I’ve heard in all of the 28 years of my life. His life story is a genius tragedy of the harsh realities of an unfiltered mind in a crude world. I’ve never heard Liszt played in this way before, and here Ervin takes an already demonic piece of music, and interprets it in a way that puts him right next to some of the great masters.
